This is my 5th year at St. Mary's School. I teach computers, provide technical support, provide some interventions, and teach Spanish. I have worked as a computer programmer and a graphic/web designer since the 90s. I have also studied Spanish in Mexico and lived there. I felt called to share my knowledge and experience with children, and chose St. Mary's so I could do that in a christian enviornment. I am originally from Kansas and obtained my degree from Bethel College. I have also been trained in Linda Mood Bell's Seeing Stars, Verbal and Visualization and Cloud Nine Math. We have three children, one who attends St. Mary's. We love living in Wyoming and being part of St. Mary's!
Elementary: Yes, we program in elementary! Every December is Computer Science Awareness month, so we join An Hour of Code and every student from Kindergarten through 5th grade gets their feet wet programming. Older students begin their journey of Java, the language most of the world uses.
Middle School: Middle school students program a Raspberry Pi, learn Python and Java, and use those programs to control Minecraft. We also spend some time with Scratch.
Middle school students may take robotics in the fall. We have Lego Mindstorm EV3s. In December we take a team to the First Lego League competition in Casper. This winter was the first year we participated in this event and we finished 14th out of 55! Judges commented that the team was more of a family than just team mates!
